gDiapers

There are so many different types of cloth diapers to pick from. I chose a few different kinds to assemble my stash. The first kind I wanted to try is a sort of "hybrid" diaper, from a company named gDiapers. The diaper consists of three parts: little gPants, gSnap-in liners, and gCloth inserts. The gPant looks backwards, because it velcros towards the back. This is to prevent older babies from taking off their own diapers. Into this snaps the liner, which is waterproof, yet still breathable. It has a soft elastic trim, and is what holds the gCloth insert into place. The inserts are made up of three layers of microfleece, which naturally wicks moisture away from the skin, and doesn't stain (hooray!). This is the side that touches the baby. Then there is a fourth layer, a hemp/cotton blend, for super absorbency. Now what makes it a "hybrid" diaper is pure geniusness: instead of using a gCloth, you can use a gRefill, which is 100% biodegradable! It slides into the liner just like the cloth does, except you can throw it away, flush it, or even compost it. Amazing. I have yet to try these, simply because using the cloth is so easy that I see no need to purchase anything else. Another great product they make is the gCloth liner (not to be confused with the snap-in liner). They come in a box of 105 for $9, and feel like a soft paper towel. They are the same size as the cloth inserts. All you do is lay one on top of the cloth, and it catches the baby's solids, while still allowing the liquids to pass through to be absorbed by the cloth. Then you just lift the liner out of the diaper and flush, putting poop where it belongs - in the toilet. Otherwise, you would need to knock the solids into the toilet every time, before putting the cloth insert into the wetbag. What sets gDiapers apart from other cloth diapers is the fact that you don't need to put a completely new diaper on your baby every time you change him. If he only went pee, I only need to change out the gCloth. If he had a bowel movement, then I unsnap the waterproof liner (which is holding the cloth) from the pant, and simply snap in a new liner that has been pre-stuffed with a clean cloth. So Carter will typically wear the same gPant all day. Make sense?

Emma loves to carry the clean laundry to Carter's nursery. Since taking this picture, I have added a brown diaper and a navy blue diaper.

This is how the outside of the diaper looks ...

Get it?
